On completion of the programme students will apply the Laboratory skills to participate in the career needs of Forensic community. Become trained in the laboratory skills of different division of Forensic Science and will be able to work with different R&D organizations.

Eligibility Criteria

Passed or appeared in 10+2 (or its equivalent) in Science, Physics/Chemistry/Biology/Mathematics with at least 60% for General/OBC/EWS category candidates and 55% or equivalent for SC/ST and PwD category candidates.

M.Sc. Forensic Science

One of the vital strength of the School of Forensic Science is M.Sc. Forensic Science Programme. After the establishment of the National Forensic Sciences University in 2009, M Sc Forensic Science was the first programme started by the University. The Programme aims to train and transform the potential scientists to create a strong legal system for tomorrow. The programme ensures skilled scientific investigators by way of skill based training in collection, handling and analysis of evidences for the purpose of justice. Moving away from the traditionally conceived expertise of M.Sc. Forensic Sciences such as Fingerprints, Questioned Documents , Ballistics, Speaker Recognition, Video Authentication , Analytical Chemistry, Toxicology , Explosives Serology and DNA Analysis, Forensic Science has evolved into a new arena. By that, there is a scope of extending the expertise for the various complex issues relating to any of the commonly encountered in the society to its realization. In every specialty of Forensic Sciences, there has been synergetic inclusion of the novel techniques for the easier, smoother, full proof methods of investigation for more prudent results without any flaws or the reliable ones. In every means, the composite technology and expertise is made available to the prospective investigative experts through this specialized academic programme by means of routine practical, simulations analysis and other methods. This leads to the scope of technology dependence/reliance and authentication with the necessity for the proof and also as a hallmark. Every Specialization has equal opportunities and employment prospects. In addition to the conventional perception of the laboratory based work, there is more scope for the experts in other sectors of authentication testing, standard or quality assessment and testing. To achieve this, students are encouraged to develop the confidence of handling such technology and its utilization to become comprehensive expert in the respective areas. In house laboratory facilities are the feeders for all their thirst of knowledge and skill development. Most of the technological marvels are available with the laboratories for the students to be more superior than their contemporaries across the globe rather than to be at par with international caliber.

PG Diploma In Forensic Document Examination

An abundance of crucial information can be gathered from documents related to a criminal or civil case. The suicide note found next to the deceased—was it actually written by a killer trying to cover up his crime? The bank robber’s hold-up note—does it contain invisible impressions that indicate the address of the hideout? The will of a wealthy person—was it altered so a relative could receive a windfall? The discipline of forensic document examination, often referred to as “questioned documents,” is frequently associated with white-collar crimes such as check fraud; however, in practice, this area of forensic science can be used in a wide array of cases from medical malpractice to art forgeries to homicides. Armed with sophisticated technology, forensic document examiners can peer into the visible and invisible marks on a document to extract an abundance of details that may verify authenticity or provide additional information crucial to the investigation.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Science/Medicine/ Forensic Science/ Pharmacy/ Engineering with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from any recognized institute/University for General/OBC(NCL)/EWS category candidates, and 45 % for SC/ST/PwD Candidates.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from any recognized institute. Minimum 5 years of experience in the field of Fingerprint Science in any government organization for General/OBC(NCL)/ EWS category candidates, and 45 % for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

PG Diploma In Forensic Ballistics

P. G. Diploma in Forensic Ballistics course is highly practical and hands-on, aiming to produce a clear understanding of how firearms and ammunition function, the science of ballistics, the role of the forensic firearms examiner and how the forensic evidence produced in gun crime can be used to help resolve issues in relation to criminal and civil law. The learner will investigate the history of firearms and the history of the law in relation to firearms. The course will cover the different types of firearms and how these can be used and studied safely. The learner will also examine the role of a firearm examiner and the types of work that they cover. The course is divided into four papers per semester, with each module examining a specific area of ballistics. The first semester will look at firearms in general. The second year will then investigate a distinct area of ballistics covering, ammunition, range and residue. The taught phase of the course is led by academics, external leading experts and industry specialists in the field of forensic ballistics. Students are required to take a minor project as we have dedicated module for it. On successful completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Describe those factors that affect the relationship between projectile and target
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the factors affecting wound ballistics
  • Recognize and appraise the cases of accidental firing.
  • Critically assess and examine the crucial evidences in firearm cases and its importance in courtroom.
  • Explain the science underpinning internal and intermediate ballistics and the concepts involved in projectile external ballistics

Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor’s degree in any Science/Forensic science/ medicine/ Pharmacy with at least 50% for General /OBC (NCL)/EWS category candidates, and 45% or equivalent for SC/ST and PwD Category candidates.
